Type through the sky with Skye
A five-scene story about your state's air, generated once and cached forever.
Scene 1 · Meet Skye
Hey there — I'm Skye, and I fly the skies over your state every day. I've been watching the air for the past three years, and I've got a story to tell you. Ready to type your way through it?
Scene 2 · The trend
Scene 3 · Best and worst month
Scene 4 · How your state compares
Scene 5 · Your flight log
Nice flying, pilot.

About this project
Project objective
AQI Typing Adventure teaches players about their state's 2023–2025 air quality through a five-scene story narrated by Skye, a friendly pigeon. Typing text is generated once per state via Claude Haiku 4.5, cached in S3, and reused for every future player of that state — so each state gets a consistent, grounded, kid-friendly telling of its own air quality data.
How to use
- Pick a state on the Play tab or hit Surprise me.
- Read Scene 1 (Skye's intro), then type your way through Scenes 2–4.
- Your WPM, accuracy, and time appear in the top-right as you type. Skye's location and your state's 2025 air-quality KPIs sit in the panel on the left.
- Hit Submit score now any time to skip ahead to the score card — unfinished scenes are excluded from your average.
- On the score card, save your score with a username to appear on the Scores board.
- Visit Map to see which states Skye has visited.
Score calculation
Each typing scene is scored on a 0–100 scale.
- Per-scene score = 60% × accuracy + 40% × min(100, WPM).
- Total score = mean of the scenes you attempted. Skip a scene or submit early? It's excluded from the average — no penalty.
- Stars: <55 = ★, 55–64 = ★★, 65–74 = ★★★, 75–84 = ★★★★, ≥85 = ★★★★★.
Accuracy is weighted more than speed on purpose — Skye would rather you land clean than crash fast.
